Topic 2 What does your mother do? Section C

I. Teaching Aims and Demands:

Language aims:

1.      Review the words about family members and know what a family tree is and how to make it.

2.      Learn how to get the important points while listening.

3.      Review the words, phrases and drills that would be useful to get someone’s personal information.

4.      Try to make up dialogues and with the target drills reviewed.

5.      Learn to introduce a person including more details.

Ability aims:

1.      Get to know how to sum up after a period of study.

2.      Cultivate the ability of self-study and cooperation.

Moral aims:

1. Enjoy learning English.

2. Communicate with others in English.

II. Teaching Important Points:

1.      Help the students review the words and phrases and make a list of the drills that would be useful to get someone’s personal information. 

2.      Help the students know when and how they can make a summary.

III. Teaching Difficult Points:

1.      Help the students make up dialogues with the useful expressions they summed up. 

2.      Help the students collect details to compose a passage.

IV. Teaching Methods:

1. Create an English-speaking environment.

2. Project-based cooperative learning methods.

V. Teaching Aids:

a tape recorder, a computer, screen, multimedia.

VI. Teaching procedure:

Step 1  Warming up  2m

1.Greetings

2.Share and enjoy

T:We are coming to “share and enjoy”. Whose turn is it today

(One student writes a word, a phrase or a sentence he likes in English, and says something about it.(Chinese is Ok))

T: Thanks for your work.

Step Two Competition  9m

1.      Review some new words with pictures.

  T: Let’s begin our word competition. Row 1, from you please. 1m

(Students read and spell the words according to the pictures.)

  T: These are the words about jobs. Now let’s read them together.

  T: Could you tell us where he or she works? Row 4, please. 1m

(Students say out the work places)

  T: Look at these pictures, can you make up a small dialogue with the words we revised. You have one minute to prepare in pairs. 4m

(Then let Row 3 show their dialogues)

  T: We go on to revise the words about family members. Look at the phonetic symbols and choose the right words, you need to tell us the Chinese meaning. Row 2 on the left, please. 1m

  T: This time, you need to say out the words according to the phonetic symbols. 1m

  T: Since we have revised the family members, can you finish this family tree?

  T: Here about the colors. Row 5, please. 1m

 

Step3  Listening 5m

1.      T: We’re going to listen to Section C 1a of Topic 2. Listen to the four dialogues and try to know who they are talking about.

2.      T: Well done. Listen again and fill in the blanks .Try to catch the key words.

3.      T: Let’s read the passage together.

Step 4 Sum-up 8m

T: Up to now, we have learned many drills to ask for someone’s personal information. Now let’s sum up some of them.

( Students show their answers one by one.)

Step 5  Making up a dialogue  8m

T: I show you four pictures, each group has one. You can use the drills we revised to make up a dialogue. You have 4 minutes to prepare in groups and have 50 seconds to show your dialogue.

(Choose one row to show the dialogue)

Step 6  Write a composition  12m

T: You have done so well. These four people are members of Jane’s family, they are Jane’s relatives. If I want you to write a passage to  introduce them to me. what would you do?

T: Ok. You have 5 minutes to work in groups, your leader need to write the passage down. The first to finish will write theirs on the blackboard.

T: Let’s read the passage on the blackboard.

T: Let’s listen to other groups’ composition.

Step 8  Homework

1. Write a passage introducing Jane’s family members.
